Purdue Baseball #1 in Big10

Purdue’s outstanding baseball team showed their true abilities this past weekend by sweeping the Indiana Hoosiers (aka, Loosiers), in their home series. The Boilers couldn’t have done it without sophomore star Perkins and his many homeruns. Red Shirt Junior Cal Gunter also proved himself a great pitcher in the series by pitching outstandingly on Friday as well as Sunday.

The sweep of the Hoosiers solidified the Boilers number 1 ranking in the Big Ten standings. Despite the loss of their first baseman Ryan Bridges, it looks like the Boilers are still able to play aggressively and maintain their #1 ranking. Boiler Up!

Derek Rose named NBA MVP

Chicago Bulls star Derek Rose, 22, was named the youngest NBA Most Valuable Player this past week. The outstanding guard for the Bulls deserves this award by a landslide. His abilities and talents are unremarkable for such a young ball player. He seems to be following in the footsteps of the other greatest Chicago Bull of all time, Michael Jordan. Every game the Bulls play seems to also be called “the Derek Rose show”. His ridiculously quick speed makes him unstoppable for his opponents. A job well done, Derek, and good luck in game 2 against Atlanta!

Penn Relays for Purdue T&F

The Boilermakers had a great showing at Penn Relays this past weekend. The meet was a combination of collegiate and professional runners alike, all competing to show off their talents in front of the 53,000 reported fans. Purdue women had a solid showing, particularly in the 4×800, finishing top in their heat and have good times all around. Alice Holmes ran an 800 time of 2:12, Carrie Schoolbraid ran a 2:11, Camille Buscomb a 2:12 and Kelly McCurdy a 2:17, respectfully. Great job Boilers!

Jesse Owens Outcome

The Jesse Owens Track classic that took place last weekend had some great races by Purdue. Camille Buscomb and Kelly McCurdy showed off their abilities and that training really does pay off by scoring in the mile and 1500 races. Unfortunately fellow Boilermaker Kyla Chapman injured herself in the steeplechase and was unable to perform at her best. The Boilermakers used this Jesse Owens race as a practice for the big meet the following weekend at Penn Relays.

Atlanta v. Chicago Playoffs

The seemingly unstoppable Chicago Bulls  proved themselves to be easily humbled in game one against the Atlanta Hawks. The home game for the Bulls started out with great defense by the Hawks, preventing much scoring from the Bulls, even D.Rose himself. The Bulls seemed to get their act together, but not until well through the second quarter. They began to show their fighting spirit, retaliating against the Hawks, letting everyone see the great team they can be, if only they could’ve held it. They fell apart again at the end of the fourth quarter, just when they needed it. Hopefully tonights game 2 will prove more successful for this aspiring Chicago team.

Kerrigan to Redskins

Purdue’s Ryan Kerrigan was the 16th draft pick to the Washington Redskins last night for the 2011 NFL Draft. This is a very exciting moment for all Purdue fans! We wish him the best of luck in his career.
